Design for Social Media Transparency

This project might help you understand the importance of transparency in social media.

Visuals have became a powerful medium to deliver information or narratives on social media, which can be easily edited and reposted by other users. Existing labeling systems fail to address the full spectrum of digital editing techniques, resulting in limited transparency for users. In response, I developed a redesigned labeling system that enhances transparency without regulating or censoring creators.

The system operates as a voluntary standard, supporting creators’ activities on social media while encouraging responsible disclosure. By establishing labeling as a cultural norm rather than a restriction, the project proposes that audiences may begin to question unlabelled content, potentially reducing the spread of misinformation generated by cheap-deepfakes and deepfakes.
